Whatever happened to those regular ol’ facials in which an esthetician exfoliates your skin, applies a nice, thick mask of something green and then massages your face? If you were feeling extra fun, you could get some kind of seasonal mask like pumpkin or strawberry. But…no. Gone are those days, my friends. In with the “terrifyingly painful” and out with the “pleasant and relaxing and completely rational.” First came the fire facial, which sounded like the worst thing ever. Now, ladies and gentlemen, I give you: the blood facial.
First of all, yes: a blood facial is as horrible as it sounds. Naturally, Kim Kardashian had to have it, as she has to have all horrible things. Yet then again, she knows a thing or two about beauty and has even turned it into a thriving empire worth almost $1B. In an episode of “Kourtney & Kim Take Miami,” Kim decided to have the bizarre procedure performed — on television, obviously — in the name of beauty (i.e. attention).
A blood facial, in case you’re wondering and have not yet clicked away to something less horrible-sounding, apparently involves a doctor drawing out blood from your face using a needle, then removing the platelets from your blood. The remainder of the blood is then put into a device which injects it back into your face.
I certainly have my moments in which I have done uncomfortable things to obtain a certain look, though I kind of hate the “beauty is pain” idea altogether, but a blood facial is a little too far past my sensibilities.
A simpler pain-free way to look fresh?
While applying lipstick in the mirror, have you noticed that your skin was looking a bit off, in terms of texture or breakouts? Maybe you woke up, wondering why your skin felt drier than usual. Whatever the issue, you knew that it had something to do with how you were caring for your skin.
Everyone wants clear, perfect skin like all the fabulous beauty gurus on YouTube, but not everyone makes sure they’re really caring for their skin. You may think something like, ~it’s a hassle to wash your face every night and make sure you’re performing every single step of your skin care routine~, but like everything in life, you need to put in the work to see results. It can seem tedious, but once you really make it a habit, it will seem like second nature to you.
With that being said, there are so many ways to take care of your skin to keep it looking fresh and clean — and a lot of it doesn’t even have to do with your 40 minute beauty routine every morning. By changing up a few simple things in your daily life, you’ll see some pretty drastic changes in your overall complexion and the quality of your skin’s appearance.
Get a Good Night’s Rest
Ever wake up after two hours of sleep and when you look in the mirror, you look like a completely different person? That’s because when we’re asleep, our skin releases toxins that help us look better. This includes producing collagen (prevents wrinkles and sagging) and melatonin (which can even out skin tone), while reducing cortisol (which can break down collagen). So when we’re not getting enough sleep, our skin doesn’t have time to produce everything. I guess it’s called beauty sleep for a good reason.
